Background
Jishan County Mingfu Steel Products Co., Ltd. is a steel manufacturing plant with comprehensive steelmaking equipment, which has 2×450m³ blast furnaces and 2×50t converters.[1]The company has an annual production capacity of 1.1 million tons of pig iron and 1.52 million tons of crude steel.[2] In 2019, Jishan County Mingfu Iron and Steel Products Co., Ltd. began to plan a capacity reduction, replacement and upgrading project. The project will dismantle the existing 2×450m³ ironmaking blast furnace, 2×50t steelmaking converter and other equipment, and build a new 1× 1230m³ ironmaking blast furnace, 1×130t steelmaking converter and other equipment to form an annual production capacity of 1.142 million tons of molten iron and 1.433 million tons of steel billets.[2]On August 27, 2022, the project officially started.[3]
In May 2017, the Central Second Environmental Inspection Team forwarded the ninth batch of issues raised by the public to Yuncheng City. Jishan County Mingfu Steel Products Co.,Ltd. has two blast furnaces with a capacity of less than 400 cubic meters each that have not been shut down, and their furnace types and approval procedures do not comply, resulting in severe pollution.[4]
