Background on Mine

The Jitpur coal mine has a deisgned capacity of 2.5 MTPA on a mining lease area of 537.93 ha.

The mine was allotted to Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. for its proposed captive power plant of 1000 MW located at a 30 Kms dstance. The Project received the environment clearance on 18 May 2009. The Project involves R&R of 7 villages – comprising 82 PAFs (homestead and land losers) and 136 PAFs who are only land losers. Life of the mine at the rated capacity of 2.5 MTPA is 27 years. Public Hearing for the project was held on 25 October 2008.[1]. However, the mine was cancelled by Supreme Court in wake of the coalgate scam and further reallotted to Adani Power for its proposed 1600 MW Adani Godda power station nearby in March 2015[2] However, Adani's plans for the supply of coal from Jitpur mine to Godda Thermal Power Station changed to imported coal.[3] In wake of that Jharkhand government decided to reallocate the mine to Jindal Steel & Power Limited for its Godda Project, but now changed to its proposed 1320 MW power plant and 6 MTPA Steel Plant in Patratu, Jharkhand.[4] [5]
