Background

Kante Coal Mine is a surface mine in Ayni, Soghd region, Tajikistan.[5] The Kante coal mine is owned and operated by Talco Resurs LLC, created in 2012. It is within the group of the the state-owned Tajik Aluminium Company OJSC (TALCO).[6]

In March 2013, the Government of the country adopted a Decree on the allocation of a company to develop high-quality coal from two sections “Dzhidzhikrut” and “Konte” (Kante) at the “Fon Yagnob” deposit in the Ainy district of the Sughd region.[6] The surface mine is located in the Fong-Yaghnob coal field, just like Fong-Yaghnob Coal Mine, but on the western flank of the deposit.[5]

As of 2020, Talco Resurs mined about 0.4 million tonnes and can increase production several times depending on demand. Since its formation in 2012, Talco Resurs has mined about 2 million tonnes of coal.[7][6] (that's 0.25 million tonnes per annum on average).
