Background

MSP steel & power plant was incorporated on November 18, 1968 as Adhunik Rollers Private Limited in West Bengal. The company was renamed to MSP Steel & Power Private Limited on March 7, 2003. The company subsequently became a public company with effect from September 9, 2003. The company manufactures sponge iron and trading of steel products.[1] On 14 February 2023, MSP Steel & Power submitted a proposal before the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change for expansion of sponge iron capacity from 375 thousand tonnes per annum (ttpa) to 953 ttpa and crude steel capacity from 384 ttpa to 1171 ttpa. The expansion also involves installation of a new blast furnace of capacity 450 ttpa at the plant. This will be developed in two phases.[2] The capacity expansion is expected to be completed by 2030.[3]
