Background
The Norway-Germany Hydrogen Pipeline is expected to follow a similar route to the Norpipe and Europipe pipelines, running offshore from Kårstø, Norway to Dornum, Germany. Initially, the pipeline is expected to carry blue hydrogen from a reforming plant in Karsto but will eventually switch to transporting green hydrogen as production facilities in Karsto and the North Sea (eg: AquaSector wind farms) come online.[3]
Equinor plans to develop 2GW of green hydrogen production by 2030, and up to 10 GW by 2040.
The pipeline is envisioned to connect to a broader German hydrogen transportation network, although these projects are still in very early stages of development.
