Background
The Nucor Steel Berkeley plant began operating in 1996.
In 2014, a fire in the plant damaged the facility; no one was injured.[1]
In 2015, a worker was killed after an accident with moving equipment.[2]
In early 2020, Nucor Corp said it may create a $300 million expansion to the Nucor Steel Berkeley plant.[3] These plans resurfaced in October 2021 with the expansion announced as 'still in the running.'[4] However, no details or concrete plans have been released yet.
