Promsort Ural steel plant (Нижне-Сергинский чугуноплавильный и железоделательный завод (predecessor), НСММЗ (predecessor), Ревдинский чугуноплавильный и железоделательный завод (predecessor), Нижнесергинский метизно-металлургический завод (predecessor), Металлургический завод НЛМК-Урал), also known as NSMMZ (predecessor), Revdinsky Steel & Wire (predecessor), is a steel plant in Revda, Sverdlovsk, Russia that operates electric arc furnace (EAF) technology.

Location

The map below shows the exact location of the plant in Revda, Sverdlovsk, Russia:

Background

NLMK-Ural's production complex in the Sverdlovsk region combines three sites: in Revda, Nizhniye Sergi and Berezovsky. The electric arc furnace (EAF) shop is located in the city of Revda and produces billets. In Nizhniye Sergi, there is a section-rolling production shop that uses billets supplied from Revda and produces mainly rebar for the construction industry. The production site in Berezovsky produces rebar and wire rod that is used in further production of hardware.[1]

In September 2023, NLMK Group sold NLMK Ural and NLMK Kaluga steel plants to Promsort OOO.[2][3]

Environmental and safety violations

In 2019, NLMK Ural exceeded air pollution limits and did not disclose certain pollutants. Administrative offense was registered.[4]

In 2020, as a result of non-compliance with safety regulations, the crane mechanic was crushed by the cable to the drum, as a result of which the 57-year-old man received serious injuries and died.[5] A criminal case against another employee was initiated, and later was dropped.[6]
