Background

Construction for the Riva Alpa Gargenville steel plant began in 1973 after industrialist Otto Lazar bought 14 hectares of land in France and decided to build a steel mill. In 1974, the mill began operating under the name ALPA - Aciéries et Laminoirs de Paris. In 1976, the company became a subsidiary of the Group Usinor Unimetal.[1]

Little other public information is available about the Riva Alpa Gargenville steel plant; no environmental or safety incidents have been recorded.
