Background
In 2018, it was announced that the Meishan Iron and Steel base's production capacity will be transferred out of Nanjing within ten years and to the coastal city of Yancheng, which is also located in Jiangsu Province. On November 30, 2018, the municipal government of Yancheng and China Baowu signed a cooperation agreement to build a 20 million-ton "green, smart, high-quality" steel production base in Yancheng Binhai Port Industrial Park. The capacity for the new steel production base in Yancheng will be partially supplied from the Meishan Iron and Steel base.[1]
