Background

The Sider El Hadjar Annaba steel plant has been operating since 1969. [1]. In 2016, ArcelorMittal Algeria gave its shares of the company to the public IMETAL group, making it an Algerian enterprise.[2] In 2018, the government announced that it would expand capacity by building a 2.5 mtpa DRI plant but there have been no developments since then, indicating that the proposal was cancelled.[3]
