This pipeline runs from the Benavente, Spain to Zaragoza, Spain. This new pipeline will run alongside parts of the Ruta de la Plata Gas Pipeline and the Haro-Aragon Hydrogen Pipeline as well as the Bilbao–Villapresente Gas Pipeline, Villapresente–Oviedo Gas Pipeline and the Pais Vasco Gas Pipeline.[1]

Background
This project consists of a series of hydrogen-capable pipelines in spanning across Spain. Parts of the pipeline will be converted gas pipelines, while other parts are expected to be newly built.
The Hydeal Espana Pipeline refers to the Hydrogen transportation infrastructure associated with the Hydeal Espana project. The project aims to build 3.4-7.4 GW of electrolysers for the production of green hydrogen (mainly powered by solar energy), which will then be transported to various industrial clusters in Northern Spain.[6]
The pipeline consists of three main parts as follows:[6]
East route: Benavente-Oviedo
This route will follow the Ruta de la Plata Gas Pipeline north from Benavente, up to Oviedo where it will connect to an industrial cluster including AccelorMittal and Fertiberia.
West route: Oviedo-Zaragoza
This route starts in Oviedo, and then follows the Villapresente–Oviedo Gas Pipeline, the Bilbao–Villapresente Gas Pipeline and the north-south section of the País Vasco Gas Pipeline. It then continues west along the Haro-Aragon Hydrogen Pipeline and terminates in Zaragoza.
It is expected that contingent upon the completion of the H2Med project, the hydrogen infrastructure will be connected to a network that includes pipelines to Portugal and France.
Guitriz-Zamora-Adradas:
The Guitiriz-Zamora-Adradas Gas Pipeline is a component of the 3rd interconnection PT-ES project, one of several international pipeline projects designed to create a single natural gas market within the European Union.[7] It is listed as a European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) project with the code "TRA-N-729"[5] and as a Project of Common Interest with the code "5.4.2".[3]
The proposed pipeline would comprise five sections of varying diameter, as follows:
- Guitiriz-Lugo, 28 km, 30"
- Lugo-Villafranca del Bierzo, 90 km, 30"
- Villafranca del Bierzo-Castropodame, 30 km, 30"
- Castropodame-Zamora, 170 km, 24"
- Zamora-La Barbolla-Adradas, 307 km, 32"[8]
The European Commission's fourth official list of Projects of Common Interest (PCI), released in October 2019, no longer includes the 3rd interconnection PT-ES as a top-ranked project, leaving the future of the Guitiriz-Zamora-Adradas pipeline unclear.[7][9] However, it was included on ENTSOG's October 2020 TYNDP Transmission Map in a scaled-back version of the project, running only from Guitriz to Zamora in a 318 km pipeline.[10] Despite this revival, it has not been featured in ENTSOG's 2022 TYNDP, and is presumed to be shelved.[11]
