SteelAsia Batangas plant, also known as Philippine Iron and Steel plant, Lemery Works, SAM Batangas, is a steel plant in Lemery, Batangas, Philippines that operates electric arc furnace (EAF) technology.
Location
The map below shows the approximate location of the plant in Lemery, Batangas, Philippines:
- Location: Lemery, Batangas, Philippines
- Coordinates (WGS 84): 13.972773, 120.888788 (approximate)
Background
On March 13, 2018, SteelAsia announced its plan to build a steel plant at Batangas, Philippines.[1] It appears that the SteelAsia Batangas plant was originally proposed to reach 8mtpa by 2026, with 4.5mtpa by 2023.[2][3] It's unclear if the plant will reach this full level of capacity or if the plan has been revised to only 1 mtpa. In July 2022, SteelAsia partnered with Tenova for the its Consteel Evolution EAF, secondary metallurgy station, billet caster, Fume Treatment Plant (FTP) and material handling systems, along with all engineering services for the civil works and the balance of plant.[4] As of October 2023, the plant is expected to begin commercial operation in July 2024.[5]
