Background
SteelAsia Calaca Works operates an integrated rebar line directly integrated with its scrap-based billet production. The original 300 ttpa mill was established in 1999 by Bacnotan Steel Industries, which was mothballed within a year into operation due to the Asian financial crisis. SteelAsia acquired the plant in 2007 and re-commissioned the plant in 2008 after upgrading the facility to 500 ttpa capacity.[1]
