Steel Dynamics Columbus plant, also known as Steel Dynamics Structural and Rail Division, is an electric arc furnace (EAF) steel plant operating in Columbus, Mississippi, United States.
Location
The map below shows the exact location of the plant in Columbus, Mississippi, United States:
- Location: 1945 Airport Road / P.O. Box 1467, Columbus, Mississippi 39701, United States
- Coordinates (WGS 84): 33.447580, -88.572683 (exact)
Background
Steel Dynamics Columbus began operating in 2007. It was originally owned and operated by Severstal, but Steel Dynamics purchased the plant for $1.6 billion in 2015.[1]
In 2014, the plant was fined $135,000 after the facility's emissions exceeded local limits.[1]
In 2018, Steel Dynamics announced it would invest $140 million to add a third galvanizing line at Columbus with an expected completion date of 2020. It also announced another simultaneous investment of $90-100 million over the next two years to upgrade its process lines and hot strip mill capabilities.[2]
In June 2021, one of the plant's furnaces was closed unexpectedly for a week after some technical difficulties.[3]
