Background

Steel Dynamics Sinton was proposed in 2019 and had a cost of $1.9 billion.[1] According to Steel Dynamics' statements, the plant was constructed to expand their flat roll steel production and reach in the southwest United States and Mexico.[2] Steel Dynamics Sinton is expected to create 600 new jobs.[2] Construction for the plant began in 2020, with roughly 1,500 workers on the site each day.[3][4] Once completed, part of the steel products made at the Sinton facility will go to building Tesla's cybertrucks.[5]

As of October 2021, it is still under construction. The plant is expected to begin operations by the end of 2021.[1][6]
