Background

In October 2022, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev gave an order to build the pipeline by 2025 in order provide residents of the Jetisu Region with gas. The construction of the pipeline will be financed by the Government of Kazakhstan.[9] In February 2023, the design and estimate documentation was developed and was expected to be approved by Gosekspertiza in May 2023. The construction will begin in the second half of 2024.[8] Once built, the pipeline will become part of the Almaty-Taldykorgan gas transmission system.[6] In February 2024, Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy Almasad Satkaliyev mentioned that the project would be implemented with the help of investors.[5]

In August 2024, the pipeline was reportedly under construction.[7]
