Background
Tata Metaliks was incorporated in 1990 as Tata Korf Metal and the name was changed to Tata Metaliks in 1992.[1] The plant and has a hot metal production of 600 ttpa and Ductile iron pipes production of 300 ttpa.[2]
The plant was commissioned in 1994 with a hot metal production capacity of 90 ttpa, which was increased to 345 ttpa in 2005 with the installation of a second mini blast furnace, and further to 600 ttpa in 2017 with the upgradation of the first mini blast furnace.[3] The Ductile iron pipe manufacturing plant was established in 2007.[4]
Tata Metaliks is increasing its ductile iron pipe production capacity which is in its last leg according to its Integrated report & annual accounts 2022-23.[5] On 15 September 2022, the first phase of the INR 600 crore expansion project to increase its ductile iron pipe plant capacity to over 400 ttpa in two phases was inaugurated by the West Bengal Chief Minister.[6] The expansion is expected to function out of the existing facilities.[7]
Tata Metaliks Limited has been amalgamated into Tata Steel Limited, effective February 1, 2024.[4]
