Tata Steel Long Products steel plant, also known as TSPL; Usha Martin Limited (UML); Tata Sponge Iron Limited (TSIL), is a blast furnace (BF), direct reduced iron (DRI) and electric arc furnace (EAF) steel plant operating in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, India.
Location
The map below shows the exact location of the plant in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, India:
- Location: Gamharia, Seraikela Kharsawan, Jamshedpur – 832108, India
- Coordinates (WGS 84): 22.812895, 86.084022 (exact)
Background
The Tata Steel Long Products Gamharia steel plant began operating in 1982 under Usha Martin Limited.[1] It operates five DRI kilns, two mini blast furnaces and three electric arc furnaces[2]
Safety
Several accidents have happened at the plant in the past decade.
In 2014, one employee was killed after falling in a bucket of molten iron.[3]
In 2015, 19 workers were injured after a fire at the plant.[4]
In 2020, a senior manager at the plant died after being trapped in the equipment.[5]
