Tyumen Electrosteel plant (Металлургический завод Электросталь Тюмени, МЗ Электросталь Тюмени, УМК-Сталь), also known as UMK-Steel, UMK-Stal, is a steel plant in Tyumen, Russia that operates electric arc furnace (EAF) technology.

Location

The map below shows the exact location of the plant in Tyumen, Russia:

  • Coordinates (WGS 84): 57.109316, 65.668641 (exact)

Background

The construction of the plant began in 2008. The electric arc furnace shop of the plant produced the first steel in 2013; the official launch of the plant took place in 2014.[1]

Ownership

The enterprise is part of the structure of UMMC-Steel (UGMK-Stal) of the Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company.[2] In August 2022, UMMC-Steel officially registered a new name for the limited liability company, changing it to "UMC-Steel" (UGM-Stal). According to the company, these changes mark the logical conclusion of the rebranding of their black metallurgical division, which had been operating as an independent organization while maintaining its partnership with UMMC. The company had registered its trademark in 2019. From a legal and organizational perspective, this renaming does not imply any significant changes. All existing contracts and agreements previously made by the company remain legally valid. UMC-Stal continues to operate with two plants, namely, Nadezhdinski Metallurgical Plant and Tyumen Electrosteel Plant.[3]
