Background

UMC Metals Co. Ltd was established in 1994 in Chonburi Province in Thailand.[1] In November 2012, the plant installed the energy efficient ECOARC which was inaugurated on February 06, 2013, after demonstrating 30% energy savings in comparison to conventional electric arc furnaces.[2] The ECOARC was expected to replace the conventional EAF of capacity 380 ttpa installed in 2002 at the plant, which had been operating at the plant since.[3]
