Background

The Urtuysky Coal Mine (Уртуйское месторождение) is an operating surface coal mine in Zabaykalsky Krai, Russia. The Urtuysky coal mine is a surface coal mine. It is owned by Priargunsky Industrial Mining and Chemical Association (PIMCU), which is part of Rosatom.[7]

The mine has a capacity of 4.5 million tonnes per year[8], but it appears that it has reduced as PIMCU's 2021 Annual Report referred to capacity of 3.5 million tonnes.[9]

Production in 2020 was 2.9 million tonnes.[10] The same level of production was achieved in 2021, of which 1.7 was supplied to power plants within PIMCU's group and the rest to other domestic consumers.[9] Krasnokamenskaya CHP is the main consumer.[11] 2023 production was over 3 million tonnes.[12]

Existing reserves of 35 million tonnes allow the mine to continue producing until 2034.[9]
