Background
In 2021, Uttam Galva Ferous Limited (UGFL) received an in-principle approval from Government of Karnataka (GoK) to set up a 6 mtpa capacity integrated steel plant along with 893 MW Captive Power Plant at Bellary District in Karnataka. GoK has accorded approval to implement the project. The proposed steel plant of UGFL is likely to be commissioned by 2027-28.[1]
As of August 2023, the project had not begun implementation and the firm has said it will launch physical work on its factory as soon as it gets environment clearance and also sought an additional six years for full implementation of the project.[2] The firm seem to have received a three year extension for executing the project.[3]
