VMK Red October steel plant (Волгоградский металлургический комбинат "Красный Октябрь" (Russian)), also known as Volgograd Steel Works; Korporatsiya Krasny Oktyabr, AO, is an electric arc furnace (EAF) steel plant operating in Volgograd, Russia.
Location
The map below shows the exact location of the plant in Volgograd, Russia:
- Location: Prospekt Imeni V.I. Lenina, 110, Volgograd, Volgograd Oblast, Russia, 400007

Background
The plant was founded in 1897 under the name "Ural-Volga"; in 1898 the first open-hearth furnace was launched.[1] The enterprise included 9 open-hearth furnaces, sheet rolling, mechanical, foundry shops and other divisions. In 1922, the plant was renamed to "Red October". In the 1930s, a new open-hearth shop was added. In 1949, steel was produced in an electric arc furnace for the first time. After the collapse of the USSR, Red October steel plant changed several owners, survived the arbitration management procedure of 1998-1999 and bankruptcy in 2018.[2] The open-hearth shop does not appear to operate any more at this time.[3]
Ownership
In June 2023, the assets of the VMK Red October steel plant were was sold at a public auction for 2.52 billion rubles to AO Krasny Oktyabr Corporation. This marked the third auction for the sale of the plant's property complex, which had been declared bankrupt in November 2018. The first two auctions were reported as unsuccessful.[4]
