Vale Tecnored Marabá iron plant (Usina Vale Tecnored Marabá) is a steel plant under construction in Marabá, Pará, Brazil.
Location
The map below shows the approximate location of the plant in Marabá, Pará, Brazil:
- Location: Pátio Ferroviário de Marabá
- Coordinates (WGS 84): -5.408654, -49.103539 (approximate)
Background
In November 2021 the Brazilian mining company Vale announced that it had obtained a license to build a "green pig iron" plant at Marabá in northern Brazil.[1] The new facility was to incorporate Vale's innovative Tecnored technology, using corn biomass to replace metallurgical coal in the production process.[1][2]
Construction of the iron plant began in April 2022, with commercial operations expected to start up in 2025 or 2026.[2][3] The Tecnored plant's annual production capacity would initially be 250 thousand tonnes per annum (ttpa), with the potential to increase to 500 ttpa.[2][3] Pig iron from the plant would supply the nearby Sinobras Marabá steel plant, simultaneously under development by Siderúrgica Norte Brasil S.A.[3]
