Zarand Iranian Steel Company Kerman plant (شرکت فولاد زرند ایرانیان (Persian)), also known as ZISCO, is a steel plant in Zarand, Kerman, Iran that operates blast furnace (BF) and basic oxygen furnace (BOF) technology.
Location
The map below shows the exact location of the plant in Zarand, Kerman, Iran:
- Location: Zarand, Kerman Province, Iran
- Coordinates (WGS 84): 30.749633, 56.6675096 (exact)
Background
The Zarand Iranian Steel Company plant began operating in 2008 as part of the part of Middle East Mines and Mineral Industries Development Holding Company (MIDHCO).[1]
To support production at the Zarand Iranian Steel Company plant, a coking plant with a capacity of 400 thousand tonnes per year went into operation in 2012, having been built with an estimated 92 million Euro investment.[2]
In 2021, Trump placed sanctions on MIDHCO, due to the Iranian metals sector is an important revenue source for the Iranian regime. This may have impacted the production/export revenue of the Zarand Iranian Steel Company plant.[3]
In June 2021, a fire broke out in the facility after a sudden overflow of molten material in the blast furnace; no injuries were reported.[3][4]
