DEACERO Ramos Arizpe steel plant (Acería DEACERO Ramos Arizpe) is a steel plant in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, Mexico that operates electric arc furnace (EAF) technology.
Location
The map below shows the exact location of the plant in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, Mexico:
- Location: Km. 8.5 Autopista Monterrey, Saltillo, 25900 Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, Mexico
- Coordinates (WGS 84): 25.511162, -100.961848 (exact)
Background
Operating since 2013, the Saltillo (or Ramos Arizpe) mini mill was the third electric steel plant built by Mexican company Deacero S.A. de C.V.[1] Located near Deacero's original Saltillo plant in the northern Mexican state of Coahuila, it has the capacity to create 1.5 million tons of crude steel and 500,000 tons of finished steel annually.[2][3]
Deacero originated in 1952 as a small manufacturer of fencing and barbed wire in Monterrey, Nuevo León, but the company has since grown to become Mexico's leading supplier of metal wire and one of the world's largest wire manufacturers[4], with three electric steel plants[5] and a distribution network encompassing more than 20 countries in North America, South America and Europe.[6][7]
In 1985, Deacero built its first mini mill, designed to supply up to 700,000 tons of steel annually to the company's wire rod mill and rolling plant in Saltillo, Coahuila.[4] In 1998, the company inaugurated its second steel-making facility, the Deacero Celaya steel plant in central Mexico near Celaya, Guanajuato, with capacity to produce more than 1 million tons of bars and wire rod annually.[4] Following a 2006 expansion that doubled the Celaya plant's capacity[4] and the 2013 opening of the Saltillo plant, Deacero's overall steelmaking capacity has increased to 4.5 million tons per year.[5]
