Background

Evonith Steel is the evolution of the steelmaking facilities located at the Wardha Steel Complex, in Maharashtra, India. The facilities at Wardha Steel Complex include Evonith Metallics Limited (“EML”), formerly known as Uttam Galva Metallics Limited (“UGML”) and Evonith Value Steel Limited (“EVSL”) formerly known as Uttam Value Steels Limited (“UVSL”).[1] Nithia Capital acquired UGML and UVSL in 2020. The company announced the commissioning of BF2 at EML in September 2022. This BF2 project commenced in 2015 and was halted due to financial constraints in 2018. After acquisition Nithia Captial completed the project within 18 months.[2]

A powerful explosion at blast furnace tower 5 at the plant during cooling operations on November 07, 2024, injured 17 workers. This is the second such blast at the plant in three years. A similar blast had left 19 workers injured[3]
