Israel–Egypt Gas Pipeline is a proposed gas pipeline that would run from Israel to Egypt.[1]

Location

The pipeline is proposed to run onshore from Israel to Egypt, passing through the north of the Sinai Peninsula.[1] As of October 2021, the route was still in the process of receiving approval from local authorities,[1] though a suggested route connecting the Israel Natural Gas Transmission System to the Arab Gas Pipeline appears in multiple sources.[2][3]

Project details

  • Operator:
  • Owner: Israel Natural Gas Lines (INGL)[1]
  • Parent company:
  • Capacity: 3–5 billion cubic meters per year[1]
  • Length:
  • Diameter:
  • Status: Proposed
  • Start year:
  • Cost: US$200 million[1][4]

Background

This onshore pipeline is being discussed at the request of Egypt for additional natural gas import capacity. As of March 2021, reporting noted that Egyptian and Israeli authorities were aiming to commission the pipeline within 24 months. The pipeline is expected to boost Israel's gas exports by up to 5 billion cubic meters per year to Egypt.[4]

The pipeline would be coupled with the Israel–Egypt Offshore Gas Pipeline to provide increased gas supply to the Egyptian power grid and increase LNG exports from Egypt to Europe and Asia.[5]
