Background
Ryeongdae Coal Mine (령대탄광) is an underground coal mine in Eunsan County, South Pyongan Province, North Korea.[2]
The mine can also be referred to as Lingdae Coal Mine. The mine is part of Suncheon Coal mine Complex. Located in the northern region of South Pyongan Province, the mine complex is composed of Ryeongdae Coal Mine, Shinchang Youth Coal Mine, February 8 Jikdong Coal Mine, Cheonseong Youth Coal Mine, Hallyeong Coal Mine.[3][4]
Ryeongdae Coal Mine is located in Gubong Workers' District, Eunsan County, South Pyongan Province.[3]
It has an annual production capacity of 1 million tonnes, and the coal from this coal mine has a high degree of carbonization and low ash content, so it was used as a fuel for the North Korean steel industry and was supplied as a raw material to the Ryeongdae Altan Plant.[3][5]
All of the coal can be transported to the pit entrance on a belt conveyor. The length of the shaft extension is 3,000 m to the right and 1,000 m to the left, and the depth is 600 m. As a countermeasure against flood damage in Gang 1, concrete embankment construction for the drainage was completed in 2008.[5]
