SSAB Raahe steel plant, also known as Raahen terästehdas, Raahe Steel Works, is a steel plant in Raahe, North Ostrobothnia, Finland that operates blast furnace (BF), basic oxygen furnace (BOF), electric arc furnace (EAF), and direct reduced iron (DRI) technology.

Location

The map below shows the exact location of the plant in Raahe, North Ostrobothnia, Finland:

Background

SSAB Raahe plant began operations in 1964.[1] In January 2022, SSAB announced its plan to convert the SSAB Raahe steel plant blast furnace (BF) to a 100% renewables-based hydrogen direct reduced iron (H-DRI) and electric arc furnace (EAF) facility between 2030-2040.[2] It is unclear if the plant's capacity will change. SSAB plans to bring fossil-free steel to the steel market by 2026 through operations at the SSAB Oxelösund steel plant.[2]
