Background

Guangdong Province consumed the most gas among provinces in China in 2023. With 38.7 billion cubic meters, it's nearly 10% of the country's total gas consumption.

The major sources for gas in Guangdong include 6 LNG terminals (Zhuhai LNG Terminal, Guangdong Dapeng LNG Terminal, Diefu LNG Terminal, Huizhou LNG Terminal, Hongmei LNG Terminal, Shenzhen LNG Terminal), gas from Central Asia through West-East Gas Pipeline 2 and West-East Gas Pipeline 3, as well as Sino-Myanmar Gas Pipeline.

In 2012, the mileage of operating gas pipeline in Guangdong Province was around 500 kilometers. [2]It increased to 3630 kilometers in the end of 2020. [3]The province planned to further increase the gas pipeline mileage to 5800 kilometers by 2025.[4]

Under tge provincial gas pipeline network, the province planned to build four sub- networks within the province, including Pearl River Delta gas pipeline network, Guangdong North Gas Pipeline Network, Guangdong East Gas Pipeline Network and Guangdong West Gas Pipeline Network.

In September 2020, the National Pipeline Group and Guangdong Provincial Government signed a strategic cooperation agreement on the reform of the gas pipeline network system in Guangdong Province (关于广东省天然气管网体制改革战略合作协议). Guangdong provincial gas pipeline network became the first provincial gas pipeline network to be integrated into PipeChina.[5]

Pearl River Delta gas pipeline network consists two phases. [5]Phase I began construction in 2009,[6] reaching seven cities, totalling 463 kilometers. The transport capacity is 16 billion cubic meters.[2] Phase I began operating in 2012.[7] Phase II consists four pipelines. The total mileage is 234 kilometers. Phase II began operating in 2014.[5]

Guangdong East Gas Pipeline Network 粤东天然气主干管网

The Guangdong East Gas Pipeline Network was described in the 13th Provincial Energy Development Five-Year Plan (2016–2020). The network includes five pipelines: a LNG transport line, one major pipeline, one connecting pipeline, and two branches.[18] The proposed length of the full network was 539.8 kilometers, and the total estimated cost was 6.29 billion RMB.[18] In Guangdong Province's 14th Five-Year Plan, pipeline systems were proposed with the goal of reaching every county in the province, though no specific pipelines were mentioned. A map from the 13th Five-Year Plan describes the likely routes.[19]

  • Contruction on the Huizhou–Haifeng Pipeline 惠州—海丰干线 segment began in July 2021.[20]
  • Construction on the Huizhou–Heyuan Branch 惠州—河源支干线 began in 2019.[21] Its source will be the imported LNG from the West-East Gas Pipeline 2, Huizhou LNG Terminal.
  • Construction of the Jieyang–Meizhou Branch 揭阳—梅州支干线 was completed in 2020.[22] Its source will be the West-East Gas Pipeline 2, Jieyang LNG Terminal.
  • Intended approval for the Haifeng–Huilai Connecting Pipeline 海丰—惠来联络线 was announced in December 2020.[23]
  • Jieyang LNG Terminal Transport Pipeline began operating in 2021. It was built by CNPC and, when completed, transferred to PipeChina and merged into the Guangdong East Gas Pipeline Network

Guandong North Gas Pipeline Network 粤北天然气主干管网

Guangdong North Gas Pipeline Network, also known as Shaoguan-Guangzhou Line, consists of one major line at 185.5 kilometers in length, as well as three additional branches that make up the remainder of the length[53]

The Shaoguan-Aotou trunk line starts at the first station of Shaoguan in Zhenjiang District and ends at the Wengyuan Substation in Wengcheng Town, Wengyuan County, China. Construction began in February 2019[54], and by January 2021 the pipeline had finished a trial operation[55]

  • Shaoguan-Aotou Trunk Line: 185.5 kilometers long, pipe diameter of 914 millimeters[53]with the capacity of 4.2 billion cubic meters per year.

Guangdong West Gas Pipeline Network was outlined in Guandong Province's 13th Five-Year Plan (2016–2020).[62]

  • As of September 2021, no further details for the Zhanjiang-Xuwen Pipeline 湛江-徐闻干线 can be found.*The Zhaoqing-Yunfu Pipeline 肇庆-云浮支干线 is an operating pipeline. It starts at Jindu, Gaoyao District, Zhaoqing City and ends at Silao, Yuncheng District, Yunfu City, with a total length of 42.9 kilometers.[63] Construction began on on October 23, 2018 and was completed on September 25, 2020.[63]
  • The Yangjiang-Jiangmen Pipeline 阳江-江门输气干线 was publicly announced on August 30, 2018, prior to approval on .[64]
  • Construction of the Maoming-Yangjiang Pipeline 茂名-阳江干线 began in March 2020 and was estimated to be completed by a 2021 commission date.[65][66] The pipeline's purposes was to serve Maoming and Ynagjiang, which experienced local gas shortages.
  • The Yangjiang LNG Terminal Transport Pipeline 阳江LNG外输管线 was expected to begin in 2020, and commissioning in 2023.[67] However, as of September 2021 construction had not yet been reported.

Guangdong Dapeng LNG Terminal Transport Pipeline 中海油大鹏LNG外输管线 is an operating natural gas pipeline in China.[80] The source of the pipeline is the gasified natural gas at Guangdong Dapeng LNG Terminal .[81][80]

The pipeline's route is from Dapeng LNG Terminal in Chengtoujao, Dapeng District in Shenzhen, to foshan, with a branch going to Huizhou, Guangdong Province, China.[80]

建设内容及规模：兴宁-和平-连平项目起点为梅州-五华-兴宁项目的兴宁分输站（和平方向）站场围墙外2m，终点分别为和平末站和连平末站。项目管道包括“一干两支”，线路长度为160.8km，设计压力6.3MPa，设计输量1.5×108Nm3/a，管径为DN300和DN200。其中干线兴宁分输站-林寨清管站长度为93.3km，管径DN300；支线林寨清管站-和平末站段管道长度为29.6km，林寨清管站-连平末站段管道长度为37.9km，管径为DN200。工程沿线共设置4座站场，均为新建，其中包括1座分输站（龙川分输站），1座清管站（林寨清管站），2座末站（和平末站、连平末站）。沿线共设置5座阀室，均为监控阀室。[96]

Zhu Zhong Jiang Gas Pipeline 珠中江干线(江门-中山）

国家管网集团广东省天然气管网珠中江干线项目位于珠海、江门、中山市，由“一干一支”组成，线路全长98公里，设计压力9.2兆帕，设计输气量46亿立方米/年，新建站场6座、改扩建站场1座、新建监控阀室3座及配套公用工程等。其中，干线起于江门双水首站，经江门、中山市，止于粤电中山末站，管线长76公里，设计输气量46亿立方米/年；支线起于江门睦洲分输站，经江门、珠海市，止于珠海白蕉末站，管线长22公里，设计输气量8.0亿立方米/年。[97]
